Instructions for burning cedar incense:
- Hold the herb bundle in your hand and light one end, keeping it over a flame for a few seconds. Use a candle, match, or lighter. Wait until the herbs begin to smoulder.
- Extinguish the flame by blowing it out or gently shaking the bundle. Soon, thick, aromatic smoke will rise from it. As you do this, think of the intention or affirmation that will accompany your ritual.
- Smudge yourself by moving the incense from your feet to your head, then cleanse the room, objects, or people you wish to purify. After finishing, place the still-glowing incense in a safe spot, such as a ceramic bowl or heatproof dish. After a while, it will go out on its own – you can relight it at any time. Open the windows and air out the room to invite in new, positive energy.
