Vivarini ground ginger – bold flavour in a convenient form 🌿

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is one of the oldest and most versatile spices in the world. For centuries its rhizome has been a staple of Asian cuisine, and over time it has firmly settled into European kitchens too – from gingerbread to warming infusions. Vivarini ground ginger is 100% pure, dried and finely ground root – with no salt, sugar or other additives.

The light beige powder has an intense, spicy flavour with a citrus note and a warm, aromatic scent. It works well in savoury dishes, bakes and desserts, as well as an addition to tea, yerba mate and other infusions. Its convenient form lets you measure the spice precisely and spread it evenly through a dish – with no peeling or grating of fresh root. ✨

How to use ground ginger in the kitchen? 🍽️

Ground ginger adds depth and a pleasant heat to dishes without overpowering other ingredients – as long as it is used in moderation. Here are a few tried-and-tested ideas:

  • 🥘 Asian and oriental cuisine: curries, stir-fries, sauces based on soy sauce and coconut milk, marinades for chicken, beef, fish and tofu.
  • 🎃 Soups and vegetable dishes: pumpkin, carrot or sweet potato soup, lentil soup, roasted root vegetables.
  • 🥮 Baking: gingerbread, spiced biscuits, carrot cake, apple pie and muffins – ginger is one of the pillars of classic gingerbread spice.
  • 🍵 Infusions and drinks: tea, yerba mate, cocoa, mulled wine, golden milk with turmeric or homemade ginger lemonade.
  • 🍓 Breakfasts and desserts: porridge, granola, yoghurt, stewed fruit, fruit purées and smoothies with mango, apple or carrot.

Ground ginger is more concentrated than fresh ginger, so it is best to start with a small amount and gradually adjust it to your taste.

❓ FAQ – frequently asked questions about ground ginger

1. How much ground ginger should I use instead of fresh?

Ground ginger is much more concentrated than fresh root. As a rule of thumb, 1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger is roughly equivalent to 1 tablespoon of grated fresh ginger. Bear in mind, however, that the two differ slightly in flavour – ground ginger is spicier and more aromatic, while fresh ginger is juicier and more citrusy.

2. Can ground ginger be added to infusions?

Yes, it is one of its most popular uses. A pinch of ginger can be added to tea, yerba mate, cocoa or mulled wine – put it in the infuser together with the dried leaves or stir it into the finished drink. Because of its fine, powdered form, a natural sediment may appear at the bottom of the cup.

3. How do I make homemade gingerbread spice with ginger?

Homemade gingerbread spice is a simple blend of warming spices in which ginger plays one of the leading roles. Example proportions: 2 tablespoons of cinnamon, 1 teaspoon of ground ginger, 1 teaspoon of ground cloves, 1/2 teaspoon of ground cardamom, 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg and a pinch of pepper. Simply mix the spices thoroughly and transfer them to an airtight container. You can adjust the proportions freely – if you like more heat, add a little extra ginger.
